About Me

GlamourGals GLTI Workshop Presenter 2023

Hi There!

My name is Shannon Murphy. I am currently a high school math and computer sciene teacher, where I teach Algebra I and Python Programming with Drone Applications. I have a New York State certification in teaching Mathematics 7-12 with a 5-6 extension. Math and science have always been loves of mine, and my goal is to show students how mathematics relates to the world around us.

In addition to teaching, I have previously been the Assistant Center Director of a Mathnasium Learning Center, a Teaching Assistant for Precalculus at Stony Brook University, and a Computer Aide at a public high school. These jobs allowed me the opportunity to gain experience working with students while honing my teaching skills.

In addition to Mathematics, I also have CYT-200 (Yoga Teacher) and B4C SEL*F (Social-Emotional Learning Facilitator) certifications. My future goals include pursuing an additional certification in Computer Science, and eventually a PhD in Educational Psychology.

My interests outside of math include reading, technology, crocheting, and playing with my two fluffy pups. I also do a lot of volunteer work with GlamourGals Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to fighting elderly loneliness while teaching teens leadership skills (check them out if you have a chance!).
